Sellers' Reflections
We love Dollar Point, and 75 Lassen is in the perfect spot! Just one street up from the lake, you can hear the boats, see the blue of the lake and its only a short walk to the beach, and what a beach it is! With boat buoys, kayak/paddleboard storage, BBQs, picnic tables, sand games, umbrellas and lounge chairs... it’s like being at a high-end resort that you can call home! On windy days at the beach, we loved being able to easily retreat to our deck where there is only a light breeze. On hot summer days, you have choices. Warm sun on the deck or cool shade under the trees in the back yard where it is private, quiet and peaceful. There is a surprising sense of open space back there. Just enough trees for shade, yet enough space between the trees to let speckled sunshine in.
After spending many seasons in our chalet, in 2008 we embarked on modernizing it. The new garage is perfect for those winter nights when you arrive while it’s snowing, it feels so good to just open the door and drive inside a lovely insulated and finished 2 car garage. No more scraping ice off on a winter morning. Enclosing the outside stairs meant walking upstairs inside! No more shoveling snow off the stairs and landing just to get to the front door at 10pm. Plus, you’ll love the spacious upstairs entry with its convenient bench from which to comfortably shed shoes, hats and jackets. With its stone flooring, hooks and large coat closet for winter apparel, it makes for a great Drop-spot! Our project grew to include finishing the basement, adding a family room, bathroom, bedroom, lots of indoor storage, and a workshop. Then adding new siding, new decks, new windows, new roof, new electrical, new hot water heaters and a new heating system. (Instant hot water, and lots of it when needed, it’s such a pleasure!) Next came refinishing all the wood upstairs, rebuilding the fireplace, fresh paint, new flooring, kitchen and bath remodels and waaa.... hoooo... , the chalet we loved was ready for the next 20 years!
There are many areas in the chalet to “hang out”. The great room is the place to gather after a day of skiing, hiking or boating in front of a crackling wood fire. Its southern exposure bathes the living area with lovely natural light through the tall front windows. The upstairs loft, which by the way has the most amazing views of the lake and trees, is a fun place to read, work on projects and keep an eye on what’s going on in the living area below. The downstairs addition has made life easy. First from a skier’s perspective, having a heated room for boots, skis and gloves after a day in the snow is fantastic. Everything is dry and warm by morning. The storage area is huge and accommodates lots of toys for all seasons, as well as an area for the handyman’s bench and tools. The new family room/bedroom/bath became a retreat for teens or visitors to have their own space in which to whoop and holler. It is a great place for a game of Foosball or Bumper Pool or to watch a concert on TV.
Our membership in the Dollar Point recreation club has been well worth it. Just around the corner right next to the beach are two great lake view tennis courts. At the community pool are 4 more courts and lots of room for picnics, reading and space for the kids to play. It is another awesome spot to de-stress. The private pool is huge with lots of lounge chair seating. After cooling off in the pool or after a game of tennis, you can switch to ping pong or shuffleboard or just lounge around and read. If the kids get restless, they can swing and slide in the playground or run around the expansive lawn areas kicking or tossing a ball. For those that love to read and maybe forgot their book or kindle, there is a lending library of books at the pool office. If you forget some essentials you can just walk around the corner to 7-11 before heading home.
In summary, our chalet is a retreat from the stresses of everyday life offering all the creature comforts as well as being an energy efficient, low maintenance home. It’s ready for your enjoyment for many years. Be sure to walk the grounds. You will be surprised at how much land and space you have around you. (Many of the small trees were planted as part of a scout project!) We hope you find our chalet a place for you to call your Tahoe home.
